COOLING SYSTEM MAINTENANCE AND INSTALLATION TIPS

1. Maintain proper coolant level, both in the radiator and the coolant expansion tank. If the coolant level is to low -- it indicates a leak in the system, and air pockets can form which will lead to a corrosive engine environment. If too high, the overflow tank will fill leaving no place for coolant overflow during expansion.  This can cause over-pressurization.

2. Use distilled water when filling the system, as tap and well waters may contain " hard base minerals" which can lead to excessive corrosion in short period of time.

3. Ph test the coolant regularly. This can be done with swimming pool ph test strips which are usually cheap.  The proper ph range is 8.5-10. This checks the possibility of coolant breakdown, and added corrosion.

4. Maintain a proper balance of Anti-freeze and water. A  50%-50% mixture is preferred, but never use more than 70% antifreeze in the system. Antifreeze needs water to as a catalyst for proper chemicals reactions to take place.

5. Check the pressure cap regularly at oil changes. Look for cap leakage, bad gaskets or over-pressurization.

6. Always change the thermostat when replacing the radiator.  Use a good thermostat. Faulty thermostats cause  80% of cooling system failures.

7. Check all hose clamps and heater fittings regularly. When installing a radiator tighten all clamps securely, and after 2-3 days of use retighten all hose clamps.

8. Check all radiator mounts are in good condition and tight. These should be some rubber at the radiator mounting area. If mounts are loose and not available, install silicone or tire tube rubber etc, to secure.

10. Check fan clutch, fan blades, electric fan operation to make sure the coolant is being properly cooled. Electric fan relays and sensors should be change if the electric fan does not energize at the correct temperature.

11. Always rely on the true cooling system specialist, ANTONINI RADIATOR INC., to handle all your cooling system needs. We offer the highest quality radiator repairs at sensible prices.
